About Fiber Optic Reference
Last reviewed 2026-10-25
Purpose
Fiber Optic Reference is a reference work on optical fiber cabling and its testing, and on the telecommunications cabling standards that govern both. It describes what each field test on an optical fiber link measures and why it is performed, which standard governs it and in which edition, and how the cabling standards divide the subject among themselves: cabling systems, components, test methods, pathways, spaces and administration.
Every statement in the site's articles and reference pages rests on a dated, sourced record called a datum. Policy pages such as this one state the publisher's own rules and carry no datums. Each article names the standard, edition and clause that govern the subject it describes, so that a reader can go to the primary source. The site is a finding aid and an explanatory reference; it does not replace any standard and does not reproduce the text, tables or values of any licensed standard.
The site is one of the sites of the Testing Reference family. Each site of the family covers only the subject its title names. A fact appears on one site of the family, and the other sites link to it rather than repeat it. The family index lists every site.
Ownership and funding
The site is published and funded by Verlecta LLC, which publishes every site of the Testing Reference family. The publisher also develops software for recording electrical test data. The site carries no product content: no product names, no product descriptions, no advertising, no sponsored content and no calls to action. The editorial policy binds the publisher, and the publisher has no say over the content of any page beyond that policy.
Purchase links point only to each standard's publisher and carry no commission.
Method and policies
The editorial policy, the methodology, the corrections policy, the sources list and the change log describe how the site is written, checked and corrected. Errors can be reported through the form on the contact page at /contact/. Error reports are acknowledged and logged on receipt.
