Data records
- In ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, Cabling Subsystem 1 is the cabling that connects an equipment outlet to Distributor A, Distributor B or Distributor C; equipment cords are not part of any cabling subsystem.
- In ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, Cabling Subsystem 2 is the cabling running onward from Distributor A, ending at Distributor B where one exists and otherwise at Distributor C.
- In ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, Cabling Subsystem 3 is the cabling that joins Distributor B to Distributor C.
- In ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, centralized cabling links an equipment outlet with a cross-connect located centrally in Distributor B or C, using a continuous cable, an interconnection or a splice.
- Under ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, a channel is the complete transmission path between the two points at which application equipment is connected, so it includes the cords that a permanent link leaves out.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E treats a CP connector as a fixed connection placed between a distributor and an equipment outlet serving a work area, and a consolidation point as an assembly of such connectors.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E defines Distributor A as an optional connection facility located between an equipment outlet and Distributor B or C, the generic counterpart of the horizontal cross-connect.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E defines Distributor B as an optional intermediate connection facility cabled to Distributor C, the generic counterpart of the intermediate cross-connect.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E defines Distributor C as the central connection facility at the top of the hierarchical star, the generic counterpart of the main cross-connect in a commercial building.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E treats an HCP connector as a fixed connection between a distributor and an equipment outlet or device in a coverage area, and a horizontal connection point as an assembly of such connectors.
- Under ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, a permanent link is the fixed portion of cabling running between an equipment outlet and the distributor that serves it, or between two distributors.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1 adds to Annex C an informative clause and table giving the supported distance and connection count of single-pair Ethernet over the single-pair cabling categories defined in ANSI/TIA-568.5. The other application tables of Annex C are left unchanged.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1 adds definitions to ANSI/TIA-568.0-E for intelligent building systems, the Internet of things, machine-to-machine communication and operational technology, with the matching acronyms IBS, IoT, M2M and OT.
- Several items of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1 relabel existing ANSI/TIA-568.0-E content on cord length formulas, consolidation point and HCP distance recommendations, installation and copper field testing as applying to 4-pair cabling, without changing that content.
- Clause 2 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1 is a list of edits to ANSI/TIA-568.0-E: it adds references, definitions and acronyms, extends centralized cabling and the recognized media list to single-pair, inserts new subclauses on open-office cords, installation and field testing, and adds a clause to Annex C, leaving the parent's other clauses and annexes as published.
- New clause 7.6, added by ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1, leaves single-pair transmission and test criteria to ANSI/TIA-568.5 and the requirements for field testers to ANSI/TIA-5071, so the addendum sets no single-pair test limit itself.
- New clause 6.5, added by ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1, sets single-pair installation requirements covering pulling tension by conductor gauge, bend radius for unshielded and shielded cable, termination and untwist, matching cord category, screen bonding and electrostatic discharge, and asks that the installed SP1 category be marked and recorded.
- Clause 7.2 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E requires field test instruments to carry calibration certified as the manufacturer specifies and to report the date and time of their current calibration.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E sets no pass or fail test limit of its own: clause 7 leaves twisted-pair criteria to ANSI/TIA-568.2, with the instrument requirements for that media in ANSI/TIA-1152, and leaves optical fiber criteria to ANSI/TIA-568.3 and broadband coaxial criteria to ANSI/TIA-568.4.
- Clause 7.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E frames field testing as measurement of cabling after installation, noting that the result depends on the cable, its length, the connecting hardware, cords, cross-connects, the number of connections and the quality of workmanship.
- Clause 5.10.2 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E gives a formula for the cord and jumper length a twisted-pair channel can carry, based on the permanent link length and an insertion-loss de-rating factor for the cord gauge taken from ANSI/TIA-568.2, and Table 1 tabulates the result.
- Clause 11 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E requires cabling administration to meet ANSI/TIA-606, and other clauses add specific record items such as labeling of open-office cords and recording of the installed twisted-pair category.
- Annex A of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, the only normative annex, covers centralized optical fiber cabling, requiring it to stay within the building it serves and to include enough slack to migrate later to a cross-connect.
- Annex C of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E is informative and lists, for each recognized medium, the distances over which common network applications are supported, with a maximum channel attenuation beside each optical fiber entry by fiber type and wavelength; it presents these as design information rather than requirements.
- Notes in Annex C of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E state that OM1 and OM2 multimode fiber are no longer recognized. OS1 single-mode fiber is in the same position, and these legacy types stay in the tables only to support existing installations.
- Annex D of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E explains the MICE classes for mechanical, ingress, climatic and electromagnetic conditions, from controlled office space through light industrial to industrial, and cautions that its classification tables do not set performance criteria for any component, link or channel.
- Annex E of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E is informative guidance on running several applications in one shared cable sheath and on sharing pathways among different twisted-pair categories, coaxial cable and optical fiber.
- Clause 8 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E requires the bonding and grounding of telecommunications cabling to meet ANSI/TIA-607.
- Clause 6.4 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E covers installation of broadband coaxial cabling, including bend radius, pulling limits that depend on center conductor material and cable series, F-connector tightening torque, and the termination of unused energized ports.
- A note in clause 5.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E maps the generic element names to commercial building terms, so that Distributors C, B and A correspond to the main, intermediate and horizontal cross-connects and the equipment outlet to the telecommunications outlet.
- Clause 5.9.2 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E forbids cross-connections at a consolidation point, does not allow a consolidation point to be combined with a transition point or an HCP connector in one link, and requires a link that contains one to include a MUTOA or equipment outlet as well.
- Clause 5.10.3 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E includes the cabling between the demarcation point and Distributor C in the overall length and requires its length and media to be recorded in the administration documentation.
- Clause 5.2.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E caps how many distributors may sit between Distributor C and an equipment outlet or HCP connector, which in effect limits how many backbone levels a design can have.
- The foreword of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E lists its changes from the prior edition, including Subsystem 1 cabling to coverage areas, the distinction between connection points and the connectors inside them, reformatted twisted-pair length formulas, and the addition of cords made from the finest wire gauge it recognizes. Value: 2020.
- Clause 6.3 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E sets tensile load and bend radius requirements for optical fiber cable by construction type in Table 3, requires fiber cords to match the fiber type of the cabling, and requires transmit-to-receive polarity to be maintained by the methods of ANSI/TIA-568.3.
- ANSI/TIA-568.0-E serves as the base document for premises cabling, and premises-specific standards such as the commercial building standard ANSI/TIA-568.1-E layer their own requirements on top of it.
- Clause 6.2.3.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E rates a twisted-pair installation built from mixed components at the category of its lowest-performing component and recommends that the installed category be marked and recorded.
- Clause 5.10.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E ties allowable cabling length to the application and the media described in Annex C, counts cords and jumpers in that length, and lets premises standards set shorter limits.
- Clause 2 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E lists as normative the media standards ANSI/TIA-568.2, ANSI/TIA-568.3 and ANSI/TIA-568.4, along with ANSI/TIA-569 for pathways, ANSI/TIA-606 for administration, ANSI/TIA-607 for bonding, ANSI/TIA-1152 for copper field testers and ANSI/TIA-5017 for physical network security.
- Clause 5.9.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E covers multi-user telecommunications outlet assemblies for open offices, requiring their equipment cords to reach the equipment without an intermediate connection, to be labeled at both ends, and the assembly to be mounted in a permanent, accessible location.
- Clauses 9 and 10 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E require pathways and spaces, and the firestopping of penetrations, to meet ANSI/TIA-569.
- Clause 13 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E requires the physical security of the cabling network to meet ANSI/TIA-5017.
- Clause 6.2.6 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E gives no separation distance between telecommunications cabling and power wiring, deferring that guidance to ANSI/TIA-569 and the applicable premises standard.
- Clause 5.8 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E recognizes balanced twisted-pair cabling of category 5e or higher under ANSI/TIA-568.2, multimode and single-mode optical fiber under ANSI/TIA-568.3, and broadband coaxial cabling under ANSI/TIA-568.4.
- The foreword of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E places it in the TIA-568 series, beside a commercial building premises document and separate component documents for balanced twisted-pair, optical fiber and broadband coaxial cabling.
- Clause 6.2.5 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E requires the screen of screened twisted-pair cabling to be bonded to the primary or secondary bonding busbar through the connector and panel, and it describes a voltage check between the screen at the equipment outlet and the outlet ground as an indicator of improper grounding.
- Clause 5.5 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E limits the intermediate connections allowed in a Subsystem 1 run, whether transition point, CP connector or HCP connector, and in that subsystem it prohibits splices in twisted-pair cabling and splitters in optical fiber cabling.
- Clause 5.2.1 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E requires a hierarchical star for twisted-pair and optical fiber cabling, while broadband coaxial cabling may also use a bus arrangement in the backbone subsystems but keeps a star in the subsystem that reaches the outlet.
- Clause 6.2 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E sets installation requirements for 4-pair balanced twisted-pair cabling, among them a maximum pulling tension, a minimum bend radius for cable and cords, a maximum pair untwist at terminations and the T568A or T568B pin-pair assignment.
- Clause 12 of ANSI/TIA-568.0-E addresses cabling for wireless access points, recommending balanced twisted-pair of the higher recognized categories for them and pointing to TIA TSB-162.
